For my first project, I want to go with something simple and something much generic, so I can get a practice on the other part of production. 

And here’s a simpler story that I came up with. It’s much simpler than the other projects. I haven’t thought up of ending for it, but I feel like the focus of this story will be more on characters, their growth through the story, and how their actions affect other people. 

There will be three protagonists. Two boys and one girl, in high school. (By generic, I mean to use settings and similar character backgrounds.) 

The story happens in their local setting (school, neighborhood, etc.) and in a fantasy-esque world. The latter world can be accessed after falling asleep, but before entering in a dream mode. (To be more exact, it’s a closed environment where people’s mind enter in a out-of-body experience.)

There exists beings that people can talk to, interact with, but who are not people. They take on various forms. What they know varies. What they are able to do varies, too. When people ask them questions, they may or may not enter. Some don’t know the answer, and some know false information, and some are not allowed to answer the question. They also collect a lot of data (since people talk a lot of things to them when they visit the world). They also seem to have another way of accessing the real world. People are also able to have one request granted. Some may not be able to grant a request, some may not be allowed to grant a request. Whether people get through or not may also depend on their condition. 

Things can be taken into this world, but nothing leaves with them. 

Most of the information from this world is about the real world. And some of these ‘beings’ are able to make some changes in the real world. 

And to enter this world, and to exit this world, the ‘dreamers’ (?) need to be wearing a special accessory that will eventually connect their consciousness back to their physical body.

The protagonists (and the other extras) don’t know much about this world. 

In the first half of the story, male protagonist 1 will focus on learning about the world. Knowing how to ask questions, and having good memory, he will learn a lot about this world. He generally believes that power is knowledge, but he’s starting to learn that some information does more harm, and that the public don’t need to know of them. In school, he is well-liked, and is well-informed. He is also well-natured, and many people believe that he will make the right decision when needed, and depend on him.

Male protagonist 2 will encounter a ‘being’ that reminds him of his deceased mother and sister, and become extremely attached to that being, and this world. He starts to look for ways to either stay in that other world forever, or to bring this being into his world. He doesn’t really care about other people. Although many do think he’s pretty cool (by stereotype/looks/whatever), he has few friends, who he doesn’t really think of as friends.

The female protagonist requests that some of the ‘beings’ become friends with her. After her father was convicted for murder (or some kind of crime), her friends leave her and the whole school body distance themselves from her. Her family moves to a new location (which happens to be the area that the other two characters live in). She has made some friends, but she is very careful about keeping her family’s past secret. However, she feels that the ‘beings’ are able to remain her friends even with knowing what happened to her father/what he did. Although she is attached to her ‘friends’ in the other world, she still wants to have true friends in the real world. 

They sometimes visit the world together and travel together after learning the other party knows about this world. But since the other world is too big, they (and other people) rarely bump into each other if they don’t travel together. They also start to meet other people who also travel to this world. But it’s sometimes hard to tell who’s a human, and who’s of that world.

For plot: 

Male protagonist 1 learns of the female protagonist’s secret, but promises her to keep it secret. They also become more aware of the other world as a big pool of information and that it’s more important than they thought and that the requests and information there are affecting the real world. They discover that some of the ‘beings’ are actually people. And one of the characters get stuck/lost in the other world because his/her accessory gets stolen while they are ‘asleep’. The other two have to find who stole the accessory and the motive behind it. They also learn more about their past/people from their past, as they uncover more information in the second world. When things start happening, the characters spend a lot of time running around in the other world to get information, to ask requests to the right beings.

The protagonists learn a lot about this world, but still don’t know more about the world, because we usually never learn the whole of things in real life, too.

So it’s pretty generic… I think generic stories should be easier to do. Less expectation, and I don’t have to think as hard as to make the story work. Actually, I wanted to insert some of my stagnant, abiotic characters into some story. They will have the role of being ‘beings’. :) 

Ideals for some of these ‘beings’:

Angel - able to listen to a variety of requests. Doesn’t tell much. Main power is to allow one ‘being’ to affect the real world more.

Ghost - eliminates whatever comes on the way. May stop on the its track to listen to a request if it has eliminated something already on that day. Looks similar to Angel. Able to affect only what’s in the other world. Doesn’t talk. Other beings and humans try to avoid this.

ADA - disappears and appears randomly, and is really hard to find. Bears resemblance to someone….? Not much is known about this.

PLUS/MINUS siblings - one can increase certain property/objects and the other one can decrease some stuff. These are the ones that the female protagonist becomes friends with. They have a lot of basic knowledge of the world.

Girl? - the one that the male protagonist 2 becomes attached to. Hasn’t done much and haven’t talked much. Appears more human like than others.

Gatekeeper (actually human) - the one who’s always at the local checking point between the real world and the other world. There are not actually a ‘gatekeeper’ in other checking points (in other places) but the ‘dreamers’ in this town/city/region are used to seeing him everyday (since he has been always there) and assume that other checking points are like this too. He’s actually someone from the real world disguising as a being. Most of the time he tells useful information to first-timers (like who to avoid, what they can do) but later seems to to be not so trusty and kind…
